Ten-year-old Indian-origin chess talent Bodhana Sivanandan has created history at the British Chess Championships in Liverpool by becoming the youngest female player ever to defeat a grandmaster. She achieved this milestone by defeating Grandmaster Peter Wells during the final round of the tournament.

At just 10 years and five months old, Sivanandan surpassed the previous record held by American chess talent Carissa Yip, who was nearly six months older when she achieved a similar feat. This remarkable victory earned her the title of Woman International Master (WIM), one of the highest titles awarded exclusively to women in chess.

Her rapid ascent reflects not only her raw talent but also her growing status as one of the most remarkable young players in British chess. Just last year, she became the youngest athlete to represent England in any sport when she joined the national women’s chess team at the Chess Olympiad.

Chess officials and fans have celebrated her victory widely. The International Chess Federation praised her performance, describing it as a historic breakthrough.

Bodhana Sivanandan’s success continues to inspire the growing community of young female chess players worldwide.
