The US Embassy in India has issued a stern warning that holding a valid US visa does not guarantee continued entry or stay. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), officials emphasized that visa holders remain under surveillance even after approval, and failure to comply with US immigration laws can result in immediate visa cancellation and deportation.
The embassy listed specific actions that could trigger revocation, including skipping classes, abandoning academic programs, committing legal infractions (even minor ones), engaging in political protests, misusing social media, or overstaying the visa’s authorized duration. These warnings apply broadly to student visas (F‑1, M‑1, J‑1), as well as work, tourist, and exchange visas.
This alert follows renewed efforts to collect social media history from visa applicants over the past five years, underscoring a commitment to ongoing background checks.
The embassy reiterated that a US visa is a privilege, not a right, and that visa holders must adhere strictly to all laws and terms of their stay. The advisory serves as a reminder for Indian travellers and students to remain vigilant and fully comply with US immigration regulations to avoid unforeseen revocation or deportation.
