During their first face-to-face meeting in six years, Xi Jinping told Donald Trump on Thursday that while the two countries “do not always see eye to eye,” such differences are normal between the world’s largest economies.
At the summit in Busan, South Korea, both leaders emphasised intent to collaborate and steer China-US relations “on the right course.” Xi praised the warm reception and said the two nations are “fully able to help each other succeed and prosper together.”
Their meeting came amid critical talks on trade tariffs, rare-earth exports, soy-bean purchases and supply-chain disruptions. While no final deal was announced, Trump later called the session “amazing” and said the countries had already reached consensus on many major issues.
Analysts say the event is less about a breakthrough and more a signal to markets and global partners that both sides are seeking stabilisation after years of friction. The full implications for trade, technology and geopolitics are yet to unfold.
