UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is on a visit to India, meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai to accelerate the implementation of the recently signed free trade agreement and to strengthen cooperation in technology, investment, and defence.
During the discussions, both leaders welcomed announcements that 64 Indian companies would invest £1.3 billion in the UK as part of the expanding economic partnership. Plans were also outlined for joint initiatives including a connectivity and innovation centre and a joint AI centre, aimed at deepening collaboration in digital and infrastructure development.
Starmer reiterated support for the trade agreement, calling it a foundation for stronger commercial engagement between the two countries. The UK delegation includes more than 100 business leaders, highlighting the scale of economic interest in this partnership.
The visit reflects a strategic push to turn diplomatic agreements into tangible projects, particularly in technology, finance, and manufacturing, against a backdrop of shifting global dynamics.
