A man in his 30s has been arrested by West Midlands Police in connection with a racially-motivated rape of a British Sikh woman in her 20s. The incident took place on the morning of September 9 on Thame Road, Oldbury, between 8:00 and 8:30 AM.
The woman, who was heading to work, says she was attacked by two white men who used racial slurs—including “You don’t belong in this country, get out”—during the assault. Police are treating the case as a hate crime.
Following community outrage, around 200 people gathered at Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick and at the attack site to call for justice and stronger action against anti-Sikh hate crimes. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, including forensic work and CCTV checks. A second suspect is still being sought.
For many in the Indian diaspora and global Sikh communities, the attack underscores fears about rising hate crimes and the vulnerabilities faced by visibly identifiable minorities. Legal rights groups and community leaders are calling for prompt action and greater solidarity from government authorities.
