Police Saturday arrested a gemstone dealer, Gurpreet, a Janakpuri resident, after tracking down a second-hand car in which he killed the woman, DCP (West) Vichitra Veer said.
The woman’s decomposing body — with burn marks and chained limbs — was found in a West Delhi locality. Police identified her as Nina Berger, a 30-year-old Swiss national who they suspect was lured to the country, tortured and killed by a businessman she refused to marry.

CCTV footage near the spot also shows two men getting out of a car and throwing the body behind the school.
Police said Gurpreet met Berger around three years ago when he went to Switzerland to meet a relative. The two had kept in touch since then.
“The two became close through a common friend circle… Gurpreet asked her to marry him, but she said she was already in a relationship. This infuriated Gurpreet and he came back (to India). Thereafter, he convinced the woman to come to Delhi for a vacation and even showed her an itinerary of famous places she could visit,” a police officer said.
Not suspecting anything amiss, Berger arrived in Delhi on October 11 and stayed at a Janakpuri hotel for a week before Gurpreet picked her up, offering to drive her around the city in his car, police said.
“He took her to Vishnu Garden where he strangled her and fled, leaving the body in the vehicle… He returned the next day to check on the body which had begun decomposing,” the officer said.
“Fearing that the stench from the body might attract attention, he drove the vehicle to Tilak Nagar, picked the body and dumped it behind the MCD school,” the officer said.
According to police, Gurpreet bought a second-hand car from a West Delhi shop. Police traced the car using its registration number and CCTV footage.
Police said the footage near the spot showed two men getting out of a car and throwing the woman’s body behind an MCD school in Tilak Nagar.
Police believe Berger was killed three days ago and that Gurpreet inflicted burn injuries on her.
“The other accused, who helped Gurpreet, are being identified and will be nabbed,” the officer said.
Over Rs 2 crore cash was seized from Gurpreet’s residence. Police have alerted the Income Tax Department about the money.
“There were blisters all over the body of the victim and there were cut marks on the wrist of the victim too… We are establishing what tools the accused used to torture the woman and kill her… no one other than Gurpreet has been able to identify the woman,” the officer said.
