A Russian woman named Nina Kutina (40) and her two young daughters were found living in a dangerous cave on Ramatirtha Hill in Gokarna, Karnataka. The police found them on July 9 while checking the area to keep tourists safe.
Nina said she came from Goa to live in the forest for spiritual reasons, wanting peace and quiet to meditate and pray. But the police were worried about her and her daughters’ safety because the area has wild animals, snakes, and landslide risks.
The police helped the family come down safely and took them to an ashram in Kumta, where they could stay in better conditions.
Later, the police asked Nina about her passport and visa. At first, she didn’t share details, but later said her documents were lost in the forest. A search team found them inside the cave.
It was found that Nina’s visa expired in 2017, and she had stayed in India illegally after that.
Now, she and her daughters are staying at a women’s shelter in Karwar under government care. Officials are working with the FRRO in Bengaluru to start the deportation process and send them back to Russia soon.
