Ludhiana: A family in Punjab is reeling from a shocking turn in the case involving their daughter, Mandeep Kaur, who died in Canada around a month ago. Initially informed that she had died in an accident, the family has now been told that the 30-year-old was murdered, and her husband’s younger brother is standing trial for the crime.
Mandeep, who moved to Canada nearly seven years ago for higher studies, married Anmol Jeet Singh, a Canadian resident originally from Lodhiwal near Sidhwan Bet, earlier this year on March 11. The news of her death had already devastated the family, but the revelation that it was a homicide has deepened their grief and confusion.
According to reports, Canadian authorities informed the family that fresh evidence suggests foul play, prompting the reclassification of the case from accidental death to suspected murder. The accused, who is the younger brother of Mandeep’s husband, is currently facing trial, though details of the motive and circumstances remain unclear.
Relatives in Ludhiana said they have been left shocked by the developments and are seeking clarity from Canadian officials. They have appealed for a transparent probe and support from Indian authorities to ensure justice for Mandeep.
The case has added to concerns among Indian families whose children migrate abroad for education and work, as they grapple with safety issues far from home.
