Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi has urged corporates to adopt solar-based charging for electric vehicles (EVs), stressing its role in cutting oil imports and reducing emissions.
Speaking at the launch of Refex Mobility’s operations in Delhi, Joshi said solar energy is vital to unlocking the true potential of EVs.
“To fully realise the promise of electric vehicles and smart, energy-efficient transport, they must be powered by the Sun,” he said.
“Corporates should lead the way by adopting solar charging for their EV fleets, reducing oil dependence, curbing emissions, and creating greener, healthier cities in line with their ESG commitments.”
The minister added that the government is supporting the EV ecosystem through a dedicated scheme covering up to 80% of project costs for both EV owners and charging infrastructure providers. He also highlighted India’s plans to advance towards clean hydrogen as the next frontier.
Refex Mobility, based in Chennai, operates a fleet of over 1,400 EVs serving 70+ corporates across Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Backed by 200 employees and a tech-driven transport management system, the company plans to deploy 400 new EVs in Delhi-NCR over the next three years, positioning itself to build one of the region’s largest corporate clean-mobility fleets.
“Delhi-NCR is a launchpad for scaling into Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities nationwide,” said Anil Jain, CMD, Refex Group.
