PM Modi set for Indo-Pacific tour in July, with visits to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand expected to strengthen India’s strategic partnerships across the region. The three-nation trip, likely to take place from July 6 to 11, is also expected to include engagements with the Indian diaspora.
According to people familiar with the preparations, the itinerary is being finalised and details remain subject to change. No formal announcement has yet been made by the Prime Minister’s Office or the Ministry of External Affairs.
In Indonesia, Indian PM Modi is expected to hold talks with President Prabowo Subianto. Discussions are likely to focus on bilateral cooperation and regional issues in the Indo-Pacific.
The Australian leg of the tour is expected to include meetings with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The leaders are likely to discuss defence and security cooperation, trade, critical minerals, education and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
PM Modi is also expected to visit New Zealand, where he is likely to hold talks with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. If the visit materialises, it would mark the first trip by an Indian prime minister to New Zealand since Rajiv Gandhi’s visit in 1986.
Interactions with members of the Indian diaspora are expected to form an important part of the tour. India has been seeking to deepen its engagement with countries across the Indo-Pacific amid growing geopolitical competition and efforts to strengthen economic and strategic ties.
