PM Modi seafarers safety was a key theme of the Indian Prime Minister’s address at the G7 Summit outreach session, where he called for stronger international cooperation, respect for international law and the protection of global maritime routes amid ongoing tensions in West Asia.
Speaking at a session on forging new partnerships and rebuilding international solidarity, PM Modi said the safety of seafarers and shipping lanes was a shared global responsibility. He stressed that maritime trade routes must remain secure so that seafarers can carry out their duties without fear.
The remarks came days after the deaths of Indian sailors in attacks linked to the conflict in West Asia and amid concerns over disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy and trade corridors.
PM Modi said conflicts should be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy and cooperation rather than confrontation. He welcomed recent progress in efforts to reduce tensions in West Asia and expressed hope that stability would return to the region.
The Prime Minister also warned that the world was facing a growing trust deficit and said mutual trust had become one of the most valuable strategic assets in international relations. He argued that a lack of respect for international law was weakening global solidarity and making it more difficult to address shared challenges.
Highlighting India’s approach to development partnerships, PM Modi called for countries to move beyond a traditional donor-recipient model and instead build relationships based on equality, mutual respect and shared growth. He said the Global South was seeking genuine partnerships rather than assistance alone.
The PM Modi seafarers safety message formed part of a broader appeal for international cooperation at a time when conflicts, energy security concerns and supply chain disruptions continue to affect economies and communities across the world.
