India marked a major infrastructure milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The new airport is expected to enhance Mumbai’s air connectivity and reduce congestion at the existing airport.
Phase 1 includes a single operational runway, an interim terminal, and improved transport links connecting the airport to major parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Future expansion plans include full terminal facilities, multiple runways, and integrated metro and rail access to accommodate growing passenger and cargo traffic.
The airport is projected to become a key driver of trade, tourism, and regional growth in Maharashtra, while easing pressure on one of India’s busiest aviation hubs.
