AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has appealed to the Central government to take immediate action to secure the return of Indian citizens allegedly misled into joining the Russian army. Among them is Hyderabad native Mohammed Ahmed, who, along with Manoj Kumar, Anoop Kumar, and Sumit Kumar, was reportedly tricked by agents into enlisting to fight in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Owaisi said Ahmed’s family approached him after losing contact with their son, prompting him to raise the issue with authorities. The Foreign Secretary’s office has since confirmed that efforts are underway to ensure the safe return of all the affected Indians.
The appeal underscores growing concerns over fraudulent recruitment networks exploiting vulnerable job seekers and sending them into conflict zones under false pretences. Owaisi has called for swift and decisive government intervention to prevent further such incidents and to bring back those already stranded in Russia.
