The second flight carrying 235 Indian citizens returning from Israel made a successful landing at Delhi Airport on Saturday following the Israel-Hamas conflict. The majority of the travellers were people who were travelling to and working in Israel. Two infants were among the 235 Indian nationals who were successfully evacuated on Friday in the second group. The Indian nationals were welcomed by MoS MEA Rajkumar Ranjan Singh at the airport. They praised the Indian government for taking the initiative and expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In response to the attacks by Hamas militants on Israel on October 7, India launched “Operation Ajay” on Thursday to aid individuals who seek to return home. The first charter flight to facilitate the return of Indian citizens from Israel left late Thursday evening from Ben Gurion airport, carrying 211 adults and an infant. The flight reached Delhi on Friday morning.
In the midst of the country’s heated battle with the Palestinian militant group Hamas, as many as 447 Indian nationals who were stranded amid the raging Israel-Hamas war have been brought back to India under ‘Operation Ajay’. The evacuation will continue tomorrow as well, according to the Indian authorities. Indian enterprises receive assistance from the Indian embassy in Israel, which has also established a helpline for Indian residents who require assistance. A 24-hour control room has been established by the MEA due to the growing hostility. The control room will assist in keeping an eye on the situation and providing data and support.
In the attack that shook Israel a week ago, Hamas militants killed 1,300 Israelis, mainly civilians, and seized scores of hostages. With a vow to annihilate Hamas for the attack, Israel has since put the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians, under a total siege and bombarded it with unprecedented air strikes. Gaza authorities say 1,900 people have died. On Friday, more than a million residents of northern Gaza received a notice from Israel to flee south within 24 hours.
