The Israel-Hamas war has entered its sixth day. As the conflict escalated, India declared the commencement of “Operation Ajay” on Wednesday to assist Indians trapped in Israel in returning home. Violence in the region was triggered by Hamas militants’ series of blatant attacks on Israeli cities over the weekend.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took to X on Wednesday to announce, “Launching #OperationAjay to facilitate the return from Israel of our citizens who wish to return.” According to the external affairs ministry, there are about 18,000 Indians living in Israel.
On a special flight on Thursday, the first group of Indians is anticipated to be transported back from Israel. Notably, the Indian embassy in Israel has already sent an email to the initial group of Indian citizens who have registered for the special aircraft on Thursday. To monitor the situation in the conflict-torn regions and to inform and aid Indian citizens, a 24-hour control room in Delhi has been established with separate emergency helplines in Tel Aviv and Ramallah.
Israeli jets have pounded Gazan targets for days in retribution, and the death toll there has risen to 1,200, Palestinian media reported, citing Gaza’s health ministry. Over 2,000 people have died as a result of the several strikes launched by Hamas militants from Gaza against Israel since Saturday and the accompanying Israeli response. 155 troops were among the more than 1,200 fatalities in Israel, according to the Israeli authorities.
