Mumbai: In a major step towards strengthening its presence in the professional filmmaking segment, Nikon India unveiled its latest innovation – the Nikon ZR – at the Broadcast India Show 2025 held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The new full-frame cinema camera, developed in collaboration with RED Digital Cinema, marks Nikon’s formal entry into the cinematic production ecosystem.
The launch event was attended by senior leadership, industry professionals, and creators, reflecting the growing demand for compact, high-performance gear in professional video and OTT content creation.
Positioned as a versatile tool for both high-end professionals and independent content creators, the Nikon ZR aims to bridge the gap between large-scale productions and agile, on-the-go filmmaking. The company’s MD, Sajjan Kumar, highlighted that the ZR is not just another camera but a “revolution in cinematic storytelling,” designed to meet evolving creator expectations.
Weighing just 540 grams, the camera combines portability with power. Its standout features include internal 6K RAW video capture, RED-curated colour science with the R3D NE codec, a 4-inch vari-angle LCD, and the world’s first in-camera 32-bit float audio recording. It is also built to withstand demanding shooting environments with a dust-and-drip resistant magnesium alloy body.
The ZR is designed for seamless integration into modern workflows with deep-learning autofocus, up to nine subject detections, 5-axis IBIS, and support for multiple LUT formats. Its ability to support 6K/59.94p and 4K/119.88p 12-bit RAW recording offers creators a flexible and professional-grade production setup without bulky rigs.
From a user perspective, Nikon representatives emphasised that the product’s compact design and advanced features make it suitable for both large studio setups and smaller crews aiming for cinematic output. Its intuitive interface and inbuilt stabilisation were highlighted as key elements that enhance usability in real-world shooting scenarios.
In addition to the camera, Nikon also introduced the ME-D10 wireless shotgun microphone, further strengthening its creator-focused ecosystem.
The Nikon ZR will be available in India from October 16, 2025, priced at INR 1,86,995 (body only).
For Nikon, this launch signals not just a product debut but a strategic pivot to cater to a rapidly evolving market where OTT platforms, independent productions, and digital creators are shaping the future of visual storytelling.
