New Delhi will host a major India-Russia Business Forum on December 4 and 5, coinciding with President Vladimir Putin’s visit, as both countries push toward a bilateral trade target of 100 billion dollars by 2030. The forum aims to deepen investment ties, expand market access and identify new areas of cooperation across key industries.
Officials said discussions will focus on increasing the presence of Indian engineering products in Russia, expanding India’s food and marine product exports, and exploring greater collaboration in digital services and pharmaceuticals. India is also looking to boost Russian purchases of Indian value-added goods.
The forum will review opportunities for joint innovation, regulatory alignment and scaling up manufacturing. MedTech and healthcare services are expected to be prominent areas of dialogue, given the growing complementarity between the two economies.
As India and Russia increase engagement in emerging technologies, both sides are expected to bring complementary strengths to the table. India has developed strong capabilities in digital public infrastructure, scalable platforms and AI-based solutions, while Russia has advanced experience in scientific research, defence and space technologies.
The forum is also expected to look at cooperation in critical minerals, energy, and transportation. Indian officials say joint work in AI and digital technologies could become a major pillar of future collaboration.
Meanwhile, India may initiate discussions on potential new defence purchases from Russia during Putin’s visit. These could include fighter jets and missile defence systems, as both nations continue long-standing strategic cooperation in security and defence. However, officials familiar with the matter said any proposals would depend on broader geopolitical considerations.
The business forum is expected to bring together industry leaders, officials and trade bodies, with the aim of strengthening long-term economic engagement between the two nations.
