India’s strategic lobbying in Washington and its active actions and meetings scheduled reflects the growing diplomatic strength and proving the investments done so far is actually worth every cost affiliated with it.
A few hours after praising Indian Prime Minister Modi and addressing a ‘strategic partnership’, US President Donald Trump met with Indian hired lobbyist Jason Miller and Mercury Public Affairs LLC. This meeting added a new layer of political undertone to U.S.-India trade negotiations.
From interventions in Russia-Ukraine on-going war, even meddling as peace maker for India-Pak war like situation, to posing tariff threats to India over Russia to also backing Pakistan then Alaska Summit and now calling China a culprit for the growing tensions with India and Russia, the US President has given a terrific performance over the platform called Geopolitics.
Nevertheless, the strategic meeting between Lobbyists and President Trump will define a new relationship and it will reinforce India’s approach of leveraging well-connected voices to navigate the complex U.S. political landscape and shaping global policy decisions.
Jason Miller, a former advisor to President Donald Trump, met with Trump at the White House in early September 2025. While the exact topics discussed between the two weren’t made public, the declaration of the meeting came through Miller’s X account, soon after when Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signaling India’s interests in maintaining strong diplomatic ties alongside its trade negotiations.
In addition, India contracted Mercury Public Affairs, a firm with former Trump administration officials, to provide strategic communications, media outreach, and government liaison services.
This effort comes as the U.S. considers a potential 50% tariff increase on Indian exports, which will evidently affect the MSMEs and even big exporters as the USA is now coming across as a potential market for Indian goods too.
