An absconding gangster from Pune, Nilesh Ghaywal with a long standing notorious history and wanted criminal under MCOCA and Arms Act, has now triggered an international manhunt after the issuance of ‘Blue Corner’ Notice by Interpol. The issued notice came into existence after the request by Pune Police, Ghaywal obtained a fake passport and Schengen visa using forged documents and fl ed to London to evade Indian law enforcement.
Ghaywal and his gang were quite active in Pune, Maharashtra and in their recent case of attacking and shooting of a man and a student, multiple FIRs were registered following the attack. This incident escalated his other ongoing legal proceedings on land grabbing and illegal possession of luxury cars.
Nilesh and ongoing cases under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999) in his prosecution for involvement in gangs, extortion rackets, mafia syndicates.
Furthermore, the political parties of Maharashtra took the chance into calling out each other and involvement of political leaders with Nilesh and his gang. From the pictures circulating all over social media, deeper investigations are underway to establish the link of politicians and other influential people with Nilesh.
However, The Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) is one such organisation that acts as a helping hand for investigating authorities and police to catch the criminals by the ease of data sharing and providing an ease in proceedings border issues.
It facilitates international police cooperation, issues different notices for criminals on the run from the member states, depending upon the status of crime.
The Blue Corner Notice is an enquiry warrant, not an arrest warrant. It gets issued to collect information about the whereabouts, identity or activities of a person connected with a criminal investigation when their location is unknown. This notice is used in cases that involve suspects, witnesses or missing persons who may have crossed borders.
Nilesh Ghaywal’s Blue Notice is intended to track down his whereabouts and to help authorities verify his identity and to alert the other 195 Interpol countries to trace him further increasing the chances of his arrest abroad.
Although the authorities are investigating the case, there is a possibility of issuance of Red notice, which is responded to after an International Arrest is requested by state police.
