Tata Motors on Tuesday launched the all-new Tata Sierra, marking the return of one of India’s most iconic SUV nameplates. Priced from Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Sierra enters the competitive mid-size SUV segment with a contemporary design, advanced safety systems, and multiple powertrain options.
The new model, inspired by the original 1990s Sierra, features a boxy silhouette and upright stance but adopts a practical five-door layout. Tata has retained the signature wraparound glasshouse effect at the rear, reinterpreting it with a blacked-out roof and modern styling elements.
Powered by a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel option, the Sierra will initially be available as an internal-combustion SUV. Tata confirmed that an all-electric Sierra EV will follow in the next financial year as part of its expanding EV roadmap.
Built at Tata’s Sanand plant in Gujarat, the Sierra is the first major SUV to roll out of the upgraded facility acquired from Ford. The company said the model will play a key role in strengthening its position against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the mid-size SUV category.
Inside, the Sierra offers a tech-focused cabin highlighted by a three-screen setup—covering driver display, infotainment system, and a dedicated passenger screen. Level-2 ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and autonomous emergency braking, are offered on higher variants. The SUV also includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and all-disc brakes.
Bookings for the new Sierra will officially begin on December 16, with deliveries scheduled to commence from January 15, 2026.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD Shailesh Chandra said the revival of the Sierra “blends nostalgia with modern engineering” and positions Tata “to tap into the strong demand for premium mid-size SUVs.”
With its blend of heritage styling and modern technology, the new Sierra is expected to be one of Tata’s most significant launches in recent years and a key pillar of its future product strategy.
