Rajasthan is set to host a landmark sporting event with the inaugural Tour_de_Thar, flagged off on 23 November from Norangdesar to Deshnok. Traversing the smooth stretches of the Amritsar–Jamnagar Expressway, the endurance race will transform the Thar Desert into a grand stage of grit, stamina, and human spirit.
The curtain raiser was held in New Delhi today, graced by Union Minister for Law Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal and Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.
Marking the launch, the Ministers unveiled the official Tour_de_Thar jersey—designed around sustainability and the desert landscape, symbolizing resilience, endurance, and harmony with nature. Cyclists will wear the jersey during the final event. They also inaugurated the official website and registration portal, inviting participants from India and abroad to register for this pioneering race.
With three challenging formats—300 km Relay, 200 km, and 100 km—the event is designed to test strength, stamina, and mental resolve. More than 2,500 participants, including professional cyclists and passionate enthusiasts from India and overseas, are expected to take on the desert winds, rolling dunes, and rugged terrain in a thrilling spectacle of endurance sport.
Beyond competition, Tour_de_Thar 2025 aims to highlight Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential. The route will feature local music, folk dances, and handicraft showcases, creating a vibrant desert festival. Initiatives such as the Namo Fit India Cycle Clubs, under the Fit India Movement, are also supporting the event, promoting cycling as a tool for fitness, wellness, and environmental responsibility.
More than a race, Tour_de_Thar is envisioned as a fusion of sport, culture, and sustainability. It seeks to inspire future generations to embrace cycling, fitness, and adventure tourism while positioning India prominently on the global sporting map.
