The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the world’s largest accounting body, has entered the Guinness World Records for conducting the “Largest Careers Advice Lesson” during its flagship event — Career in Accounting and Finance for Youth (CAFY 4.0) and the Super Mega Career Counselling Programme – भविष्य की राह — held in Mumbai.
The event brought together more than 7,400 participants, including students, teachers, principals and counsellors. Of these, 6,166 eligible students took part in the structured guidance session, earning ICAI the world record title. Representatives from Guinness World Records were present to adjudicate and formally certify the achievement.
The programme began with an inaugural ceremony attended by senior ICAI office-bearers and officials from various government departments. Addressing the gathering, CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, President of ICAI, lauded the milestone, stating:
“Achieving a Guinness World Record for the largest career advice lesson is a proud moment that shows how deeply ICAI values guiding young minds. Reaching over 6,166 students in one session has helped them make informed choices and opened doors to opportunities beyond borders.”
Focus on Future-Ready Career Guidance
Designed for students from Class VI up to the graduation level, the programme offered structured insights into career options across humanities, science, commerce and emerging fields aligned with India’s evolving economy. Participants were introduced to the distinction between jobs and long-term careers, and encouraged to explore opportunities in science, arts, commerce, sports and digital professions.
Special sessions on “Choosing the Right Career” and “Guiding Students Towards Purposeful Careers” highlighted self-awareness, personal interests and strength-based decision-making. Students were also briefed on career possibilities in commerce, the CA course structure, ICAI’s merit-based education model, scholarships, and global career pathways for Chartered Accountants.
Record-Breaking Guidance Session
The coordinated world-record attempt took place at NESCO, Mumbai, with thousands more students joining from locations across India. The session followed strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Records adjudicator, with a formal briefing, witness verification and adherence to all standards required for global recognition.
Expert speakers delivered a curriculum-based career guidance module designed specifically for the record attempt, marking a first-of-its-kind effort in India’s education sector.
Inspiration and Motivation for Youth
The event also featured motivational talks by ICAI leaders and guest speakers, emphasising the growing importance of commerce education, financial literacy and the role of Chartered Accountants in nation-building. Speakers urged students to embrace a growth mindset, resilience and adaptability amid rapid technological changes and new-age career possibilities.
