Nearly 3,000 people have been killed so far in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Among those were two Israeli security forces of Indian origin. The news agency PTI reported on Sunday that two Israeli women security personnel of Indian descent were murdered during the attack carried out by Hamas militants the week before. The attack on October 7 claimed the lives of Inspector Kim Dokraker, a Border Police officer in the police’s Central District, and Lieutenant Or Moses, a 22-year-old commander in the Home Front Command from Ashdod. According to reports, both officers passed away while serving in combat.
A young woman from the neighbourhood named Shahaf Talker gave the news agency an account of how she and a friend survived an attack while attending the Nove Music Festival, which claimed the lives of 260 people. Talker’s grandpa Yaacov, who immigrated from Mumbai, India, in 1963, told the news agency that her granddaughter was still in shock and unable to talk because of mental anguish. Yaacov added that, as a result, she decided that writing her ideas down would help her to reduce her tension.
Since Hamas’s brutal onslaught on southern Israel last week, the number of deaths from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has increased to at least 2,670, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. There have been 1,400 fatalities on the Israeli side. Official figures indicate that 51 police officers and 286 army personnel have died so far in the battle.
Meanwhile, a flight carrying 274 Indian citizens touched down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Sunday as part of “Operation Ajay,” a mission to rescue Indians from a war-torn Israel. Since the start of the special operation, this is the fourth flight.
This was the fourth flight to leave Israel since the beginning of “Operation Ajay” and the second flight in a single day. 212 individuals were aboard the first charter flight from Israel on Thursday. On Friday night, a flight carrying 235 Indian nationals returned from the second batch. 918 Indian nationals had been flown out of Israel as of this writing.
Around 18,000 Indian nationals, including carers, students, IT professionals, and diamond traders, reside and work in Israel. Indian citizens were forced to leave Israel voluntarily due to the continuous fighting between Israeli security forces and militants from Hamas.
