An Indian-origin man is being hailed as a hero in the UK after helping save a three-year-old girl who fell from a window ledge in east London.
The incident occurred on Ilford High Road when passers-by noticed the child dangling from a first-floor window above a busy street. Witnesses quickly alerted emergency services as crowds gathered below, fearing the youngster could fall at any moment.
Among those who sprang into action was local resident Mohamed Jesil, who positioned himself beneath the window alongside a police officer. Moments later, the girl lost her grip and fell. Jesil successfully caught her, while the officer helped absorb the impact and ensure she landed safely.
Speaking after the rescue, Jesil credited years of playing cricket for helping him react instinctively in the split second available. He said his sporting reflexes helped him judge the fall and make the catch under immense pressure.
The dramatic rescue was captured on video and quickly spread across social media, where many praised the courage and quick thinking displayed by both Jesil and the responding officer.
London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed officers were called to the scene over concerns for a child at risk and said the girl was brought to safety within minutes of their arrival. Authorities reported that she escaped without serious injuries.
The incident has drawn widespread admiration across the UK and among the Indian diaspora, with many describing Jesil’s actions as a remarkable act of bravery that prevented a potential tragedy.
