An Indian-origin man killed in London has become the focus of a major murder investigation after a fatal stabbing in Southall, a west London suburb with a large South Asian community.
The victim, identified by the Metropolitan Police as 26-year-old Gurbhej Singh, died after being attacked on North Road near the junction with Dormers Wells Lane in the early hours of June 10. Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing shortly after midnight and found two injured men at the scene. Despite efforts by paramedics, Singh succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man in his 30s was treated in hospital and has since been discharged.
Police believe Singh was assaulted outside a shop in the area and have appealed for witnesses and CCTV footage as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack. Specialist officers are supporting his family during the investigation.
The Indian-origin man killed in London had reportedly moved to the United Kingdom from Punjab in 2022 in search of better opportunities abroad. His death has drawn attention both in the UK and India, with family members seeking assistance to bring his body back home.
Seven men, aged between their early 20s and late 30s, were initially arrested on suspicion of murder following the incident. However, police later released six without further action, while one suspect remains on bail pending further enquiries. Authorities have not yet announced a motive for the attack and say the investigation remains active.
The case has renewed concerns about violent knife crime in parts of the UK and highlights the risks faced by members of the Indian diaspora living overseas. Detectives continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as they seek to establish exactly what led to Singh’s death.
