An Indian-origin man jailed in the UK for 34 years after kidnapping, torturing and raping a young woman has been ordered to be deported upon completing his sentence, according to British authorities.
Gagandeep Singh, 34, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court in London after being found guilty of two counts of rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The court heard that the offences stemmed from a brutal attack on a 24-year-old woman in June 2024.
Prosecutors said the victim became suspicious after being asked to transport a suitcase containing unknown items from Thailand to the UK and refused. Upon arriving at Birmingham Airport, she was allegedly abducted by masked men and driven to a property in Hanwell, west London, where she was held against her will for more than a day. During her captivity, she was subjected to prolonged physical abuse, torture and sexual assault.
After being released, the woman initially feared reporting the incident but later provided a detailed account to police. Crucial forensic evidence preserved by her family helped investigators identify Singh. DNA testing reportedly produced a strong match linking him to the crimes, strengthening the prosecution’s case.
The Indian-origin man jailed in the UK received a sentence comprising 28 years in custody followed by a six-year extended licence period. British authorities said he will not be eligible for parole until serving a substantial portion of his sentence and will be deported from the UK after completing it, with no right to return.
Investigators praised the victim’s courage in assisting the prosecution, describing the violence she endured as extreme. The case has drawn attention in both the UK and India because of the severity of the crimes and the lengthy prison term imposed by the court.
