Sahil Sharma, a 23-year-old Indian, has been accused of his wife’s murder in a south London home. A 19-year-old teenager who was fatally stabbed in Croydon was identified by the Metropolitan Police as Mehak Sharma. They further informed that Mehak and Sahil are Indian citizens and that they are husband and wife. Mehak was a recent arrival in the UK.
Mehak’s Indian next of kin have been notified, and official identification is still pending. On Tuesday, a post-mortem examination was planned. At 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, there were allegations of a stabbing at Mehak and Sahil’s Ash Tree Way residence in Croydon, prompting police to be contacted. London’s air ambulance, paramedics, and ambulance crews were all there, along with officers. Mehak was declared dead at the scene after being discovered with stab wounds. With a slight head injury, her husband was brought to the hospital after receiving treatment from emergency personnel on the site.
On Tuesday, Sahil Sharma, who resides in Ash Tree Way, Croydon—the scene of the stabbing—appeared in custody at Wimbledon magistrates’ court on a charge of killing Mehak. He was placed under arrest with a scheduled November 2 appearance in the Old Bailey.
This is the third deadly stabbing of an Indian national in London, where the accused is a cohabitant of the victim and the attack occurred within the residence. Kerala native Aravind Sasikumar, 38, was fatally stabbed on June 16 at his Camberwell home. Salman Salim (25), a flatmate from Kerala, has been accused by the Metropolitan Police of his murder. Two Indian ladies from Telangana, Tejaswini Reddy Kontham (27), and her companion Akhila (28), who were both on post-study work visas, were discovered at their Neeld Crescent, Wembley flat on June 13 with knife wounds. Kontham passed away right there. Keven Antonio Lourenco De Morais, a 23-year-old Brazilian who lived in the same flat, is accused of killing Kontham and trying to kill Akhila.
