Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89, confirming the end of an era in Indian cinema. The veteran actor died on November 24, 2025 at his residence in Mumbai, after having been hospitalised earlier this month for respiratory issues.
Born on December 8, 1935 in Punjab, Dharmendra made his film debut in 1960 with “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere”. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he starred in more than 300 films and became one of India’s most beloved action and romance heroes — notably in films such as “Sholay”, “Seeta Aur Geeta” and “Chupke Chupke”.
His passing has brought tributes from across the film industry, with peers and fans remembering his trademark warmth, charisma and the versatility he brought to his roles. He would have turned 90 in December this year.
The final rites were performed at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai, where a steady stream of prominent film personalities arrived to pay their respects. Among those seen at the venue were Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Karan Johar, along with other members of the industry who gathered to honour the veteran actor’s legacy. The presence of leading figures from multiple generations reflected Dharmendra’s enduring influence and the deep emotional imprint he left on colleagues and audiences alike.
In his memory, the film world reflects on not just a prolific actor but a cultural symbol who bridged generations and genres. His legacy will continue to influence upcoming talents and cinema lovers alike.
