An Indian citizen was among 12 people killed in a fresh wave of Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The overnight assault involved a significant number of drones and ballistic missiles and struck Kyiv and several other regions. Residential buildings, a railway depot and other civilian infrastructure were damaged, while dozens of people were injured.

Zelenskyy said the attacks continued across multiple parts of the country, including Odesa, Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk.

Nearly 350 emergency workers were deployed in Kyiv and the surrounding region as rescue and recovery operations continued. In Boryspil, a five-storey residential building was damaged and residents were evacuated, while a strike on a railway depot in Kyiv caused multiple deaths.

The identity of the Indian citizen was not initially disclosed by Ukrainian authorities. However, reports citing members of the Indian diaspora in Kyiv later identified him as 40-year-old Sudarshan Bhabhilala from Gujarat.

The attacks marked the sixth consecutive day of intense Russian strikes on Kyiv and came amid continuing concerns over Ukraine’s air-defence capabilities. Zelenskyy said the latest assault highlighted the need for greater protection against ballistic missiles and drones.
