India and the United States have called for stronger steps on India US UN action Pak terror designations, seeking additional measures such as asset freezes and arms embargoes against Pakistan-based groups. The joint position was outlined during meetings of the bilateral working group on counter-terrorism and a dialogue on terrorist designations in New Delhi on December 3.
Officials discussed targeting groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, as well as affiliates of Islamic State and al-Qaeda, under the United Nations Security Council regime. The talks examined ways to expand designations of supporters, sponsors and financiers so that listed entities face global asset freezes, travel bans and arms restrictions.
A joint statement said both sides stressed that confronting terrorism requires sustained action and cooperation. The two delegations also noted growing concern over the use of drones, unmanned aerial systems and AI for terrorist activity. India thanked the US for designating The Resistance Front, a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as a global terrorist entity after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam.
The meeting included discussion on cross-border terrorism, including incidents in Pahalgam and near the Red Fort in New Delhi. Both sides said those responsible should be held accountable. Officials also reviewed wider strategic issues linked to the India-US partnership and regional security priorities.
Talks covered ways to strengthen cooperation against financing, terrorist recruitment and the abuse of technology. The two sides agreed to expand training, cybersecurity exchanges and information-sharing through bilateral and multilateral efforts. The discussions on India US UN action Pak terror also included law enforcement coordination, with a focus on cooperation through legal assistance channels.
