    India-The global giant in renewable energy-aims to do more

    India is not just third largest economy in the world now; it is already ahead in sectors like renewable energy where it aims to do better apart from maintaining its position as the third largest producer of the green energy

    While the world is still talking about the sustainability and environment friendly sources of power, India has been doing it since years and has a proven track record

    “We aim to maintain our global position as world’s third largest producer of renewable energy and at the same time to be better in this sphere”, said Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi

    India’s renewable energy sector has witnessed unprecedented growth. After making significant strides in solar and wind energy installations, there are ambitious targets for current year.

    1, Commitment to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030,

    2, India’s total non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity has reached 217.62 GW as on 20th Jan 2025,

    3, 2024 saw a record-breaking 24.5 GW of solar capacity and 3.4 GW of wind capacity added

    4, Solar energy is the dominant contributor to India’s renewable energy growth

    5, Solar energy accounts for 47% of the total installed renewable energy capacity

    6, 2024 saw installation of 18.5 GW of utility-scale solar capacity, a nearly 2.8x increase compared to 2023.

    8, Rooftop solar sector experienced significant growth in 2024, with 4.59 GW of new capacity installed

    10, India added 3.4 GW of new wind capacity in 2024, with Gujarat (1,250 MW), Karnataka (1,135 MW), and Tamil Nadu (980 MW) leading the way
