India and New Zealand should use their recently signed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to deepen trade, investment and economic cooperation across key sectors, industry leaders said at an India-New Zealand Trade Opportunities session organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The agreement provides duty-free access to New Zealand for 100% of Indian exports, opening up fresh opportunities for businesses in both countries to expand market access, forge partnerships and step up investment.
Industry leaders said the scope for cooperation extends across housing and infrastructure, smart cities, energy, water and food security, among other sectors. The focus now is on translating the trade pact into stronger business-to-business engagement and concrete investment opportunities.
The India-New Zealand FTA was signed in April 2026, with the two countries also outlining wider cooperation in investment, innovation, technology and infrastructure. New Zealand has committed $20 billion in investment in India under the agreement, according to India’s official statement.
With duty-free access and a broader framework for economic cooperation now in place, businesses on both sides are looking to the FTA as a platform to take India-New Zealand commercial ties beyond trade and into long-term investment partnerships.
