Narendra Modi has congratulated Sanae Takaichi on her election as Japan’s Prime Minister and emphasised that the deepening partnership between India and Japan is vital for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
Modi said he looked forward to working closely with Takaichi to further strengthen the “Special Strategic and Global Partnership” between the two countries. He framed the relationship not only as bilateral but as contributing to broader regional order.
Takaichi’s elevation marks a potential new chapter for Japan-India ties. As Japan’s first woman Prime Minister, her leadership could bring fresh momentum to economic and strategic cooperation with India. Analysts suggest her tenure may deepen collaboration in areas such as defence, critical minerals and maritime security – all key to India’s vision of a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific.
