The Indian ministry of external affairs has launched “Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children” for the academic year 2023-24 for the children of NRIs/PIOs/OCIs. The scholarship provides opportunity for pursuing undergraduate courses in Indian institutes. SPDC is open to the children of NRIs/PIOs/OCIs residing across the globe and children of Indian workers in ECR countries.
SPDC is a scholarship covers the cost of studies in Indian Institutions & Universities by providing Scholarship to the extent of 75% of the total Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) or USD 4000 whichever is less. IEC comprises Tuition Fee, Hostel Accommodation Fee, Examination Charges, Registration Charges and other Institutional Charges (except food). The SPDC Scheme is for the children of NRIs/PIOs/OCIs for pursuing higher studies in selected institutions in India. In cases where the candidate is born outside India and his/her parents are not NRIs/PIOs/OCIs, then he/she shall not be eligible for any benefit under the scheme. However, Children of Indian workers in ECR countries born outside India shall be eligible for grant of the scholarship under SPDC.
Students are required to secure admission in specific Indian Institutions/Universities (Central Universities of India offering Under Graduate
Courses; ‘A’ Grade Institutions accredited by National Assessment and
Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognized by UGC; and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Schools of Planning and Architecture and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) through DASA Scheme).
