India is fast becoming a major force in global artificial intelligence development. Guillaume Princen, EMEA lead at Anthropic, said India has become the company’s second-largest market, with nearly half of Claude’s usage in the country focused on technical work such as UI development, debugging, and software building. This is far higher than the global average of around 30 percent.
Anthropic has announced plans to open its first Indian office in Bengaluru in early 2026, signalling a long-term commitment to expanding its footprint in the country. This move aligns with India’s growing developer ecosystem, thriving startup culture, and increasing investments in AI and related infrastructure.
The company has also indicated interest in enhancing Claude’s capabilities in Indic languages to make the tool more accessible to Indian users. Industry experts say this will likely boost local innovation, attract more funding into AI development, and strengthen India’s position as a strategic hub in the global technology landscape.
India’s growing role is no longer limited to being a large user base. It is becoming a critical contributor to how global AI tools are developed, adapted, and scaled.
