India has strongly criticized an incident in Toronto, Canada, where eggs were thrown at people taking part in a Rath Yatra (a religious procession) on July 11. The event was organized by ISKCON and was the 53rd Rath Yatra.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called the act shameful and sad. They said this kind of behavior goes against the spirit of the festival, which is about peace and togetherness. India has asked the Canadian government to take action against the people who did this.
A woman named Sangna Bajaj shared a video on Instagram showing broken eggs on the road after they were thrown at the procession. She said someone from a nearby building threw the eggs while the devotees were singing and walking.

She said the act was hurtful and may have been due to racism. But she added, “We didn’t stop. Hate cannot defeat faith.”
Naveen Patnaik, the former Chief Minister of Odisha, also spoke out. He said the incident was very upsetting and hurt the feelings of people who love Lord Jagannath, especially those in Odisha. He asked the Indian government to take the matter seriously with Canada.
