India has reaffirmed its calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the need to move beyond short, intermittent pauses in hostilities. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, India’s Permanent Representative expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis, including severe shortages of food, medicine, and education access. India reiterated that the release of all hostages and the resumption of credible direct negotiations are essential, underscoring that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means to achieve lasting peace and restore calm in the region. New Delhi also reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution and highlighted its ongoing $40 million assistance to Palestinians.
India’s previous abstention from a UN General Assembly ceasefire resolution drew criticism, but its recent statements mark one of its strongest public expressions of concern over civilian suffering in Gaza.
India is also set to join a high-level UN conference on the Palestine question, aimed at implementing a two-state solution, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia and attended by over 120 countries.
