The latest addition to the growing list of Indian-origin executives leading global multinationals is Vikram Pawah, who has been reappointed as CEO of BMW Group Australia. Known for his steady leadership and ability to navigate complex markets, Pawah steps back into the role after a successful stint in India, where he transformed BMW Group India into a stronger player in the luxury auto segment.
A graduate of Victoria University, Pawah first took charge of BMW Australia in 2016 before being moved to India in 2017. Over the past five years, he has overseen the rollout of electric and premium models, expanded BMW’s dealer network, and steered the brand through intense competition in one of the world’s fastest-changing automotive markets.
Announcing his return, Pawah said on LinkedIn: “I’m thrilled to return to Australia as CEO after almost 5 years leading the Indian market, which was an incredible and invaluable experience. Leading the BMW Group in two such diverse countries – twice in each – is a tremendous honour and a reminder of the remarkable opportunities our company offers.”
He underlined that while markets differ in size, regulations, and customer behaviour, both India and Australia share a growing appetite for innovation, premium experiences, and sustainable mobility. “People with passion working together in precision is the key mantra for success. It is people and relationships that drive our brand forward,” he added.
Now returning at a key juncture, Pawah will guide BMW Group Australia through its next phase, anchored by the launch of the ‘Neue Klasse’, a milestone marking BMW’s shift towards electrification, digitalisation, and circularity.
His appointment reaffirms the rising influence of Indian-origin leaders in global corporate leadership, bridging cultures and markets with vision and adaptability.
