A 26-year-old man from Barah Kala village in Haryana’s Jind district was tragically shot dead in California after confronting someone for urinating in public, Indian Today reported on September 8. The victim, identified as Kapil, collapsed on the street and later died in hospital, according to police and family accounts.
Kapil had migrated to the U.S. in 2022 via the “Dunki” route, with his family spending approximately ₹45 lakh (around $54,000) on his passage. He was their only son and sole breadwinner, providing crucial support to his family back home.
The family is now grappling with the financial and logistical burden of repatriating his remains. As of now, U.S. authorities have not made any arrests nor released information about a suspect.
