Investigators have detained five additional individuals as part of the nationwide investigation into the car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi. Among those detained are two medical doctors originally from Jammu and Kashmir -one a cardiologist in Kanpur, the other a gynecologist from Hapur – who are suspected of having links to earlier arrests.
The detentions also include two staffers from Al‑Falah University in Faridabad and another individual, all believed to be part of a covert module allegedly recruiting doctors for extremist activities through academic and institutional covers.
The doctors are suspected of being connected to the prime suspect, a doctor who drove the car that exploded, and investigators say they may have travelled abroad together and met handlers of the banned organisation Jaish‑e‑Mohammad in Turkey. A forensic search of one doctor’s rented flat turned up his laptop and phone, and encrypted messages were found on a university staffer’s seized devices.
Authorities are also looking for a paediatrician who left India for Dubai in August and is believed to have been part of the same network. As the probe continues, the role of academic institutions and overseas travel in this alleged terror module is under intense scrutiny.
