Kap’s Café, a newly opened restaurant in Surrey, co-owned by Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, came under gunfire late Wednesday night. Multiple bullets struck the restaurant and nearby buildings, but no injuries were reported.
Local police confirmed that several rounds were fired and bullet marks were found on the café’s façade and adjoining residential structures. Authorities have launched a forensic investigation, recovered bullet casings, and are reviewing CCTV footage. No arrests have been made yet.

The attack was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, an alleged terrorist affiliated with the banned Khalistani group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Laddi, one of India’s most wanted, reportedly cited anger over remarks allegedly made by Sharma as the motive.
The comedian, known for his television shows, has not commented publicly. Police are investigating whether this was a targeted act of intimidation or part of broader threats by pro-Khalistan extremists abroad.
The incident comes amid rising concerns over extortion and violence targeting South Asian business owners in Surrey. Earlier this year, multiple arrests were made in a joint Canada-wide and international operation addressing such threats. However, community leaders say extortion attempts persist.
The attack on Kapil Sharma’s café has sparked concern among locals and the Indian diaspora, with calls for heightened security and stronger enforcement against extremist threats.
