VOIWORLD
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lauded United States President Donald Trump for his “decisive efforts” in advancing peace in the Middle East, after the militant group Hamas announced its conditional acceptance of key provisions of Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan. The development, which comes after weeks of heightened conflict and international pressure, has been described as a crucial turning point in efforts to resolve the Gaza crisis.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about the breakthrough and welcomed the prospect of hostages being released as part of the deal.
“We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace,” Modi wrote.
This marks the second time in less than a week that the Indian Prime Minister has publicly backed Trump’s peace initiative. Earlier this week, Modi had called the plan a “viable pathway” toward long-term stability for both Israelis and Palestinians. He had written that the proposal not only addressed immediate hostilities but also offered a framework for security, development, and sustainable coexistence in West Asia.
Trump later reshared Modi’s endorsement on his own social media platform, Truth Social, signaling the growing global support behind his diplomatic push.
Hamas Accepts Key Terms of Trump’s Peace Deal
The breakthrough came late on Friday when Hamas announced that it would accept several central elements of Trump’s 20-point plan. These included:
-
A complete ceasefire and end to the ongoing war.
-
The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
-
The release of both Israeli hostages held by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
-
The facilitation of large-scale humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts.
-
A commitment to oppose the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza.
The acceptance came just hours after President Trump had issued an ultimatum, giving Hamas until Sunday, 6 pm (US time), to agree to his plan or face what he described as “all hell”. The dramatic deadline appears to have pushed Hamas into making concessions that many observers had thought unlikely only days earlier.
Trump Calls for an Immediate Halt to Bombing
Reacting to Hamas’ announcement, Trump urged Israel to stop airstrikes in Gaza to ensure that hostages could be released without delay.
“Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly! Right now, it’s far too dangerous to do that. We are already in discussions on the details to be worked out. This is not about Gaza alone, this is about long-sought peace in the Middle East,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The former U.S. President, who is seeking re-election in 2026, has positioned the Gaza initiative as a historic opportunity to achieve a settlement that has eluded world leaders for decades.
Acknowledgment of Global Support
In a video message released shortly after Hamas’ partial acceptance, Trump extended gratitude to the international community for backing his peace plan. He specifically thanked Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and several other nations for their mediation efforts and logistical support.
“I want to thank the countries for helping me put this together—Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and so many others. So many people fought so hard. This is a big day. We’ll see how it all turns out. We have to get the final word down and concrete. Very importantly, I look forward to having the hostages come home to their parents,” he said.
Acknowledging the pain endured by families of the hostages, Trump added, “Some of the hostages—unfortunately, you know the condition they’re in—will come home likewise to their parents because their parents wanted them just as much as though that young man or young woman were alive.”
Calling it a “very special day”, Trump underlined the unprecedented nature of the progress achieved.
“It is unprecedented. But thank you all and the countries that helped. We were given a tremendous amount of help. Everybody was unified in wanting this war to end and seeing peace in the Middle East. We are very close to achieving that. Thank you all, and everybody will be treated fairly,” he said.
India’s Role and Strategic Outlook
For India, which has historically supported a two-state solution and has balanced its ties with Israel, Palestine, and the broader Arab world, Modi’s endorsement of Trump’s plan signals New Delhi’s willingness to back a pragmatic diplomatic process. Analysts note that India’s position reflects both its long-standing foreign policy emphasis on peace in West Asia and its evolving strategic alignment with Washington.
As the world awaits further negotiations and concrete steps toward implementing the agreement, the statements from both Modi and Trump suggest that there is cautious optimism about the possibility of breaking the decades-long cycle of violence in Gaza.
