Navi Mumbai MediCity Project received a major boost after globally renowned healthcare institution Cleveland Clinic signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government and its partners to help develop the ambitious healthcare hub in Navi Mumbai.

The agreement was signed in Cleveland on June 10 between Cleveland Clinic, Brookfield Asset Management, Arodhan Health City and the Maharashtra government. The proposed Navi Mumbai International MediCity (NMIMC) will be spread across nearly 250 acres and is expected to become one of India’s largest integrated healthcare and life sciences ecosystems.

According to the project plan, the campus will house multi-speciality hospitals, medical and nursing education institutions, clinical research centres, biotechnology facilities, AI-driven healthcare infrastructure and wellness services within a single collaborative hub.

Cleveland Clinic will serve as the anchor institution for the project, bringing expertise in advanced healthcare delivery, medical education, research and patient-centred care. Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen India’s position as a global healthcare destination while expanding access to world-class medical services.

The Maharashtra government said the project is expected to attract around $1.2 billion in investment and generate more than 10,000 direct jobs. The broader ecosystem is also expected to support innovation in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, precision medicine and translational research.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the project aligns with PM Modi’s vision of strengthening healthcare infrastructure under the Heal in India initiative. He described the agreement as the beginning of a transformative journey for India’s healthcare sector.

Cleveland Clinic CEO and President Tom Mihaljevic said the institution looks forward to contributing its expertise to a healthcare ecosystem designed to meet the future needs of patients, healthcare professionals and researchers.
