The four-day Chhath Puja celebration is celebrated with great zeal and excitement not just in Bihar and western Uttar Pradesh but also in other areas of the country. The holiday is also observed by the sizable Indian diaspora living abroad. The Chhath Pooja is a solar festival in which followers worship and make offerings to the setting and rising sun. Fasting followers will make offerings to the rising sun and break the fast.
The Indian American community commemorated the holiday in numerous states around the US, including Bentonville, California, New Jersey, Texas, and Washington, DC, by singing traditional music and fasting.
Hundreds of Indian-origin people from New Jersey and New York travelled to waterfronts around the United States on Sunday to commemorate the holy holiday of Chhath. The festival was attended by members of the Indian community, who congregated on both Saturday and Sunday. Notably, people gathered on the waterfronts in Edison, New Jersey, to celebrate Chhath Pooja in Papaianni Park. Flower arrangements were visible at the park, where women dressed in Indian garb performed ancient ceremonies.
Apart from the US, the festival was celebrated in several countries, like Oman, the UAE, Malaysia, South Korea, and Nigeria. The Bihar Foundation shared a number of pictures from the global celebration on social media platform X.
