In this exclusive interview with VOIWORLD Editor-In-Chief Sumit Chaturvedi, Co-founder and CEO of Staqu Technologies Atul Rai discusses how Jarvis is reshaping the security landscape in India and abroad. From tackling the staggering crime-to-police ratio to delivering 85+ powerful AI analytics, Rai explains why the future of surveillance lies in smart, software-driven intelligence.
He also shares insights into Staqu’s global expansion across five countries, the company’s unique founding story, and how his international exposure inspired a mission to make India safer through technology.

Sumit Chaturvedi: How is your solution relevant in today’s security environment in India?
Atul Rai: India faces more than 400 IPC crimes per hour, including nearly 100 serious offenses. With only about 200 police personnel per 1,00,000 people, it is impossible for human monitoring to handle the scale of incidents. CCTV cameras exist everywhere but function as passive, post-incident tools. Jarvis transforms these existing cameras into real-time, intelligent security systems capable of detecting incidents such as violence, intrusions, suspicious behavior, or fire — instantly and automatically. This is critical in today’s security landscape where prevention and rapid response matter more than ever.
Sumit Chaturvedi: What exactly is Jarvis and how does it work?
Atul Rai: Jarvis is an AI-powered video intelligence platform that works on any existing CCTV camera without requiring new hardware. The camera feed is streamed through the internet to Jarvis, which then performs advanced real-time analytics such as violence detection, facial recognition, intrusion detection, number plate and fake plate recognition, fire detection and 85+ additional security and insight-based analytics
When an incident occurs — for example, a fight or a restricted-area breach — Jarvis sends real-time alerts to the concerned team.
Sumit Chaturvedi: What makes this technology different from traditional CCTV systems?
Atul Rai: Traditional CCTV cameras are dumb devices — they merely record and store video.
With Jarvis cameras become active, intelligent sensors, incidents are detected in real time, not after the damage is done, there is no dependency on human operators to watch screens, existing hardware gets upgraded, saving cost and effort. Jarvis turns post-mortem footage into actionable, preventive intelligence.
Sumit Chaturvedi: Tell us about your founding team and how the idea originated.
Atul Rai: Staqu was founded by three engineers: Atul Rai — background in AI research (University of Manchester), Anurag — expert in native-level programming and Pankaj — specialist in cloud and backend systems. We realized early that images and videos are the largest form of data on the internet, yet remain largely unutilized. CCTV cameras generate enormous amounts of visual data, and we saw an opportunity to extract meaningful intelligence from them.. This led to the development of Jarvis, starting with security analytics and later expanding into business insights such as footfall tracking, heatmaps, product engagement, and more — all without identifying individuals, ensuring privacy.
Sumit Chaturvedi: What analytics do you provide beyond security?
Atul Rai: Apart from security alerts, Jarvis offers powerful business insights such as footfall counting, zone-wise heatmaps, customer movement patterns, product engagement time, queue monitoring. These analytics help retailers, hotels, workplaces and other businesses understand customer behavior and operational efficiency — using the same cameras they already have.
Sumit Chaturvedi: What is your global presence and client base?
Atul Rai: Staqu works with 200+ enterprises across five countries, including India, UAE, Saudi Arabi, Qatar, Oman
This year, we also expanded to the United States and registered operations in the United Kingdom.
Although we are well-known for our work in government and law enforcement, 70–80% of our revenue actually comes from private enterprises such as retail chains, hotels, corporate offices, and industrial sites.
Around 20–30% comes from police forces, the only government segment we work with.
Sumit Chaturvedi: Who are your competitors, and how do you differentiate yourself?
Atul Rai: Most competitors are camera manufacturers who primarily sell hardware.
They do not control the software layer, which is where true intelligence lies.

Sumit Chaturvedi: How did your global exposure influence your vision as an entrepreneur?
Atul Rai: While studying and travelling in the UK and Europe, one thing stood out:
People feel safe.
There is minimal police presence on the streets, yet safety is never a concern.
Technology plays a major role in maintaining that environment.
In contrast, in India, decisions about where to live or travel are often influenced by safety concerns. We wanted to change that perception.
