NSW Premier India visit plans are set to deepen economic ties between India and Australia, with New South Wales Premier Chris Minns scheduled to lead an official delegation to New Delhi and Mumbai from August 31 to September 3.
The four-day visit will focus on expanding trade, attracting investment and creating opportunities for businesses across sectors including critical minerals, clean energy, technology, education, research, agri-food, tourism and advanced industries. Minns described India as one of New South Wales’ most important international relationships and said his first overseas visit as premier reflected the importance of the partnership.
The visit comes at a time of growing India-Australia economic and strategic engagement. NSW and India recorded goods trade worth AUD 6.87 billion in 2024-25, making India one of the state’s key trading partners. The delegation will also include NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey, with business and government engagements planned during the India trip.
Mumbai will be an important part of the visit, with the delegation building on the longstanding sister-state relationship between NSW and Maharashtra. Established in 2012, the partnership covers areas including vocational skills, agriculture, water management and waste-treatment technology.
People-to-people ties are another significant component of the relationship. About 174,000 Indian visitors travelled to NSW between April 2024 and March 2026, spending around AUD 600 million, while more than 28,000 Indian students are currently studying in the state.
The visit also comes weeks after Indian PM Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held the third India-Australia Annual Summit in July, underlining the broader momentum in bilateral relations.
For India, the NSW delegation could open additional opportunities in areas central to the country’s economic and energy priorities, particularly critical minerals, clean technology, advanced industries and investment. For Australia’s most populous state, the visit reflects the growing importance of India as a trade, education and investment partner.
