The United States has deported approximately 200 Indian nationals, including alleged gangster Anmol Bishnoi, in a coordinated operation that marks a significant win for Indian investigative agencies.
Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, is wanted in high-profile criminal cases such as the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique and a 2024 firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence.
Sources indicate Anmol fled India in April 2022 on a forged passport and lived in the U.S. and Canada using fraudulent Russian documents, continuing to coordinate gang activities abroad until his detention in California and deportation via Louisiana.
Upon landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the central agencies including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are expected to take custody of Anmol Bishnoi for interrogation and further legal proceedings.
For India, the deportation underscores deepening law-enforcement cooperation with the U.S. and highlights the government’s resolve to bring fugitives to justice, irrespective of where they hide. The move may also act as a deterrent for criminals seeking refuge abroad.
