Ambassador of India to Slovenia, Mr. Amit Narang held a meeting with the Defence Minister of Slovenia, Mr. Mag. Borut Sajovic in Ljubljana, Slovenia. During the meeting, the Indian Ambassador briefed the Honourable Defence Minister about the success of India’s Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. The strategic discussion was held in an attempt for India to strengthen its relations via strategic partnerships with the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization aligned countries like Slovenia. As part of this initiative, Ambassador Narang had also previously met with Slovenia’s economy and space officials to expand bilateral dialogue between the two countries. The meeting was also held with the aim of discussing potential bilateral cooperation in defence technology, joint training, security initiatives.
About Mr Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Slovenia
Mr. Amit Narang assumed charge as Ambassador of India to the Republic of Slovenia on March 4, 2025.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Amit Narang served as the Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman from October 2021 to March 2025.
Amb. Narang is a member of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) since 2001 and started his career in the MEA with a stint in the External Publicity Division, dealing with Indian and foreign media.
From 2019-2021, Amb. Narang headed the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Division of India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), handling India’s bilateral relations with its key maritime neighbours. Amb. Narang has also been in charge of India’s consular and visa policy, dealing with interventions aimed at the welfare of overseas Indian diaspora.
As part of his career in the Indian Foreign Service, Amb. Narang obtained an Advanced Diploma in Chinese language and has served twice in the People’s Republic of China – between 2003-07 when he worked on bilateral economic and commercial relations, and again in 2016-18 when he served as the Deputy Head of Mission in Embassy of India, Beijing.
Amb. Narang has a rich experience in multilateral diplomacy. He handled the United Nations portfolio in the MEA between 2010-13, and worked as Counselor at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York between 2013-16. During this time, he was a member of the Indian negotiating team for climate change, representing India in the meetings of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Cancun (Mexico), Durban (South Africa), Doha (Qatar), Lima (Peru) and Paris (France), culminating in the adoption of the Paris Agreement (COP21) in 2015.
Amb. Narang was part of negotiation process at the UN that led to the adoption on of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Addis Ababa Action Agenda.
During his tenure in New York, Amb. Narang was also closely associated with the adoption of the landmark UN Resolution designated June 21 as the International Yoga Day.
Amb. Narang is a Fellow of Ananta Aspen Centre’s Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Institute’s Global Leadership Network.
Amb. Narang’s interests include photography, bird watching, sports and a love for languages, history and culture.
