The world is eagerly awaiting the outcome of this meeting on coming Thursday, which is the coming together of US President Donald Trump and Russian President Putin
The announcement earlier by Washington and Moscow, has left a large-scale strategic
buzz all over the world, a summit in a remote location of Alaska. With President Trump
and President Putin sitting face to face at a discussion table. This could either end up
into polite formality or could ignite a subtle shift in global power equations.
The closed door exchanges are fuelling the speculations around the possibility of a
“territory trade-off” and military recalibration.

If the USA makes peace with Russia, it can use its energy and resources to deal with
China and its trade policies.The summit is going to be remembered for its subtle way of
redrawing global power lines.
Such negotiations have stirred unease among NATO allies, for years Russia was framed
as the central strategic threat. This could trigger a long standing European debate over
whether the continent should pursue its own defence framework rather than depending
on USA and NATO alliances.
This could also quietly erode the core of the NATO alliance, especially those who are
already anxious with USA’s unpredictable trade policies and tariff threats. In retaliation
to which Spain, Switzerland and Canada, had already paused the F – 35 deals.
For India, implications of this summit are layered. The US might seek to shift attention
towards China, pulling India closure into its orbit. Whereas NATO’s procurement freeze
could create a rare defence opportunity.
To believe the words of diplomacy experts, if Russia finds comfort with the west, India’s
diplomatic sweet spot between two rival powers could get narrow. The ice may be
melting in Alaska, with India a balancing act might get trickier.
