Gaza is currently facing one of the worst humanitarian crises. In his recent address to the Israeli parliament, Trump might have described the Gaza peace process as “the dawn of a new Middle East” further making this to a point that , “a beautiful and much brighter future had suddenly appeared within the region’s reach.But this looks like a very ambitious one considering the current situation. In the aftermath of the ongoing conflicts in Gaza, with infrastructure destroyed, hospitals overwhelmed with limited aid and millions of people who are displaced with little to no access to clean water, food, electricity or medicine.
The UN and aid agencies released warnings that cases of malnutrition, disease, and civilian deaths are rising rapidly, calling the situation “catastrophic” and urging unrestricted humanitarian access to prevent total collapse.
However, food, fuel and medical supplies remain tightly restricted and crossings such as Rafah operate intermittently due to security and political disputes. With Israel allowing only around 300 aid trucks daily which is far below the region’s needs. Israel cites the security concerns along with Hamas’s alleged misuse of resources for its reasoning behind limiting aid, linking larger deliveries to hostage and ceasefire
compliance.
As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, India is preparing to send emergency assistance and is exploring a longer-term role in the region’s reconstruction once the situation stabilizes.
India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh addressed the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit on Gaza, “India is looking forward to send relief material as humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza,”
The Ministry of External Affairs also expressed its viewpoint and said ,“India stands for peace in the Middle East and resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy. We support the Gaza peace plan of President Trump and appreciate Egypt and Qatar for their valuable roles in achieving this and advancing the path to peace.”
Further adding to this, a senior foreign policy analyst remarked, “ India’s response is guided by humanitarian considerations. It has always stood for peace, stability and dialogue. This act will reinforce India’s role as a balancing voice in global conflict zones.
India’s decision comes amid mounting global appeals for humanitarian access to Gaza. While maintaining strong bilateral ties with Israel, it has also reiterated its consistent support for the Palestinian cause and a two-state solution through peaceful negotiations.
Although this has previously been carried out, where India has sent similar missions in Yemen, Syria and Ukraine, combining diplomacy with a humanitarian response as well. Some experts also believe this outreach could also become a remarkable move by India in the expansion of its strategic footprint in West Asia,
India is making it clear by positioning itself as a bridge between the regional blocs and a
contributor to post-war recovery. According to senior government officials, discussions are underway between the
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Egyptian authorities, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to facilitate the delivery of essential supplies. The proposed aid package includes medical kits, food items, sanitary napkins, baby food and water purification systems aimed at supporting civilians especially the most vulnerable ones caught in the crossfire
